Art
Art 1 - College Prep
Credits: 10 credits total (5 credits per quarter)

Art 1 is an introductory course to visual arts. Students learn about art from prehistoric to contemporary times and create 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional art projects with a variety of media.This course teaches students how to conceptualize, create and critique art.Students will understand the historical contributions and cultural variety of visual; and also connect and apply what is learned in the visual arts to other art forms, subject areas and careers in the art field.
Art 2 - College Prep

Art 2 is an intermediate course to visual arts. Students learn about art/the elements and principles of design and create 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional art projects with a variety of media.This course teaches students how to conceptualize, create and critique art while building upon skills and knowledge learned in Art 1.Students will understand the historical contributions and cultural variety of visual; and also connect and apply what is learned in the visual arts to other art forms, subject areas and careers in the art field.
Ceramics
Ceramics 1 - College Prep

Introductory class on the basics of ceramic arts. Students will create slabs, sculptures, and reliefs among other projects.
Ceramics 2 - College Prep

Second year students are presumed to have multiple clay-making skills. Students meet with the teacher to set up projects using a set construction method that interests them. A series of projects are arranged for semester work. Special attention is given to detail work, glazing and thematic pieces. The potter’s wheel is made available for an introduction to wheel throwing of pottery. Advanced glazing techniques are used.
Drawing and Painting

Drawing & Painting is designed to offer experiences in drawing and painting techniques. Study of the elements and principles of design and the cultural and historical aspects of art are incorporated in a variety of projects. Personal expression, critique, and career awareness are also stressed.

Description The second year of Drawing & Painting will expand on the graphite and painting skills learned in year 1. It is designed to allow for more student choice in their projects while also dedicating more time to the techniques of their chosen materials. Projects will become larger and/or more detailed to work on these skills. Personal expression of a student's own ideas and material techniques is stressed.

Sculpture is an introductory course to 3D visual arts that is more varied than just ceramic clay. Students learn how to conceptualize the 3D space around them to create artworks. Heavily encouraged in this class is the student’s own critical thinking of their art designs. This is a hands-on class that requires students to be prepared for a diverse range of materials and the dedication to try manipulating these in a variety of ways.

This course leads into AP Studio Art (either Drawing, 2D or 3D). Because this course leads into AP Studio Art, it is expected that you maintain a high level of engagement and studio work as if you were in a college level course. If this course is failed, the student and teacher will discuss options with their counselor. Upon finishing this semester, students should be halfway through their 10 required individual pieces for the College Board portfolio submission.

The AP Studio Art is an advanced course to the visual arts that focuses on the development of college level portfolios. This course is designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art. Students will submit a portfolio to the College Board consisting of 10 individual pieces of art as well as their documented process of these works. In class, students will conceptualize, research, create and critique artwork. Students are expected to have a strong background in at least one visual art form.

Students understand the key technological skills required to design, edit, and produce artwork for electronic and printed presentation. Students explore digital art across various industry sectors and content areas through hands-on project based assignments that nurture talents and skills. This class focuses on photo manipulation and graphic design.

Digital Photography is an introductory course. Students learn to capture digital images, as well as post-capture editing. Students will use digital photographic equipment, materials, and methods. They will learn about the elements of art, principles of design, and photography composition - applying theory with hands-on practice.

Fashion Design is an introductory course. Students will learn hand and machine sewing basics. Students will learn how to read and create sewing patterns. Students will learn the basics of fashion illustration and visual communication through fashion. Students will learn about a variety of textiles/fabrics, and gain inspiration from fashion history as well as contemporary trends.

Dual Enrollment with Skyline College
This is an introductory dance (Performing Arts/CTE) course for students who have little to no background or training in dance. Students can develop an awareness of correct body alignment, increase physical coordination and flexibility, balance and agility when performing simple to complex movement phrases. Students can develop a refined appreciation for different dance forms and their history including ballet, jazz, theater dance, modern, hip hop, recreational dance workout, West African, Afro Cuban and Brazilian dance, and Salsa. This course will explore various life and career skills necessary, including developing music and video editing skills, and promotes creative thought and critical thinking. This course is part of the Arts, Media, and Entertainment Pathway for Performing Arts.

This Performing Arts course is an introduction to learning and playing a musical instrument.. Students will have their choice of which instrument they wish to explore. A limited number of school instruments are available and no previous band experience is needed.
Beginning technique and learning to read musical notation will allow students to begin their musical journey. Inside the class playing opportunities and some extra credit extra curricular opportunities are available to students who wish to perform with the directors permission
Performance Band
Performance Band (5th Period Class) - College Prep

Symphonic Band is an advanced course in music with an emphasis in wind and percussion instruments. Students must be able to play their instruments with a high degree of skill, and teacher recommendation is required for enrollment in this class. The elements and principles of music are initiated in a series of experiences which explore aesthetic perception, creative expression, heritage (historical and cultural), aesthetic valuing, theory, analysis, form and design. The development of performance skills will emphasize individual technical development, ensemble precision, and the study of standard band literature. Special emphasis will be placed on public performance.

Theatre Arts is an introductory course. Students will be introduced to the theater and play production. Students will learn and acquire performance and language skills through acting, reading, listening, and storytelling through nonverbal communication. Students will gain confidence in public speaking and performing on stage.

Theatre Production is an introductory course. Students will learn the basics of how performances are produced. They will be introduced to elements such as lighting, staging, makeup and costume, special effects, and more. Students will apply knowledge through hands-on experience.
