Special Education
Jefferson High School’s Special Education Department serves students with mild / moderate learning needs, as identified through assessment. Students participate in a course of study, typically leading to a high school diploma, that includes one or more periods of specialized academic instruction to address specific skill and content deficits. These courses are offered on all of our campuses and are taught by a credentialed Educational Specialist. Class size is limited and emphasis is placed on essential standards and providing students with the individualized supports specified through their IEP to allow them to access core instruction. The majority of students in this program also take one period of Study Skills, a class designed to teach the organizational, study, and learning techniques to be successful in the high school setting. Students in this program typically take one or more courses in the general education setting, depending on learning strengths and interests. If your student has an IEP, please contact the case manager or school administrator.
