9th Grade
This is an introduction to high school Physical Education which is aligned with the Physical Education Model Content Standards for Physical Education for California Schools. The content articulates the knowledge, skills and confidence that students need to maintain meaningful physical activity through their lifetime. The content areas taught in High School Course 1 are:
• Effects of Physical Activity Upon Dynamic Health
• Mechanics of Body Movement
• Aquatics
• Individual and Dual Sports (Track and Field & Combatives)
• Combatives (Boxing for Fitness)

PE 10 with an Emphasis in Team Sports
This course is a development to high school Physical Education course 1, it is also aligned with the Physical Education Model Content Standards for Physical Education for California Schools. PE 10 with an Emphasis in Yoga and Fitness
This course is a development to high school Physical Education course 1 with a focus on yoga. The content articulates the knowledge, skills and confidence that students need to maintain meaningful physical activity through their lifetime. The content areas taught are:
• Yoga
• Effects of Physical Activity Upon Dynamic Health
• Mechanics of body movement
• Team Sports (Ultimate Frisbee)
• Gymnastics
Health
Health Education
Health Education combines scientifically accurate, real-world health content with the skills necessary to achieve optimum health and wellness. These skills include analyzing health influences, accessing valid health information, interpersonal communication, decision making, goal setting, practicing health enhancing behaviors, and health promotion. The curriculum draws content from the State of California Content Standards in these topics: Nutrition & Physical Activity; Growth, Development, & Sexual Health; Injury Prevention & Safety; Alcohol, Tobacco, & Other Drugs; Mental, Emotional & Social Health; Personal & Community Health.
Health Education, EL
This course is intended for Students Learning English (ELL). The curriculum mirrors that of Health with the teacher providing verbal and written scaffolding for language support.
Team Sports Elective
Available to grades 9 - 12
Meets CSU/UC Requirements: Area "G"
This course curriculum is a continuation in the development of motor skills, fitness concepts, and personal, and social responsibility as it relates to a high level of lifelong daily fitness. Students can develop an appreciation in dual and team sports, strength training, and interval and circuit training. Students formulate plans to increase muscular endurance and flexibility, balance, coordination, and agility. Students can develop strategies for setting and reaching goals, while learning how to positively change behavior for higher quality of life, increased metabolism and energy, and health management.

Weight Training Elective
Available to grades 9 - 12
In this course students will learn to challenge themselves physically and mentally, by creating and surpassing personal goals. This course is designed to help students acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and confidence of, maintaining a physical and healthy lifestyle. Students will learn multiple lifting techniques and engage in challenging workouts, designed to help each student become bigger, faster and stronger. By the end of the semester each student will have the knowledge and the skill to create and perform their own workout regiment.

Yoga Elective
Available to grades 9 - 12
Meets CSU/UC Requirements: Area "G"
The Fitness through Yoga curriculum is a continuation in the development of motor skills, fitness concepts, and personal and social responsibility as it relates to a high level of lifelong fitness. Students can develop an awareness of correct body alignment, increase muscular strength and endurance and flexibility, balance, coordination and agility through a variety of yoga routines and pilates exercises and apply concepts of anatomy and biomechanics when designing their own yoga routines and a health and fitness plan. Students can analyze and implement beneficial lifestyle choices and yoga techniques to assist in managing a variety of physical, mental, and emotional conditions. Students can design strategies for setting and reaching short term and long term goals, while drawing conclusions about how to positively change behavior for higher quality of physical, mental and emotional life.
