Close Up Trip

Jefferson Students Experience Government in Washington D.C.

Jefferson students have the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. with the Close Up Foundation during their senior year! In 2006, nine Jefferson students participated and there are over 30 students interested in participating this year. Close Up's mission is to inform, inspire, and empower people to exercise the rights and accept the responsibilities of citizens in a democracy.

Last year students met with elected officials Senator Barbara Boxer and Congressman Tom Lantos. They also had the opportunity to meet with United States Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta. Students spend the week in the nation’s capitol debating current events with people from all over the country, attending seminars led by key political figures, participating in workshops focused on important political topics and touring monuments and museums.
